GPU and System for TYFLOW - recommendations please! - philet - 03-04-2022

Hello everyone. Thanks for taking the time. I have read the minimum requirements and am trying to pick a system to make an animated short with.  I tried researching online and found more concerns than answers. The whole process is stressing me out. I plan to get TYFLOW PRO and use it heavily during production. I read that nvidia gpu is required.  Honestly, I could use any advice or pointers in the right direction. Assume I know basically nothing about hardware if you are responding. I really really appreciate it. Here is the system I have chosen so far. Note that the gpu is a Gigabyte 24GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Turbo GDDR6X Graphics Card Model GV-N3090TURBO-24GD blower style. I have seen some concerning articles but the company tells me they still make them and they work well.  I don’t mind getting bad news about these choices. I haven’t ordered it yet, so am actually looking to find any problems with how it might work with TYFLOW.

Anyways, here it is. Sorry if this is a stupid question or if it has already been answered.

- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 24GB - 61551
- Intel i9-12900K Sixteen Core Enhanced Performance Processor
- 128GB DDR5-4800 MHz (4 - 32GB DIMMS)
- 1.0TB SSD NVMe/PCIe 3.0/4.0 M.2 Drive
- Intel Z690 Chipset

Have a great weekend!

That seems like it would be a beastly system, and I was looking into getting a 12900K myself. I do currently have a 3090RTX and it works great with tyFlow. I would not have been able to complete the Van Gogh clip on my instagram page without it, because I needed a ton of GPU RAM (and CUDA support) to compute the heavy cloth collision sims.

Biggest no-no would be getting a non-NVidia GPU, because then you lose CUDA support (which is required for some tyFlow functions, like the CCCS)...other than that, it's just whatever fits in your budget.

@tyFlow Thanks so much!  It is mainly the GPU I was worried about. But I am trying to leave no stone unturned before committing and going financially all in for this. When I talked to the specialist at the company building it, my concern was that the GPU is actually GEFORCE and GIGABYTE. So, to be clear, this will not affect the compatibility of the card. From what I gather, these cards are nVidia cards but cased, etc by others (not sure if I am phrasing this right).

I guess what I am asking is does the GV-N3090TURBO-24GD card have the correct CUDA support you mentioned?  They tried to tell me I would be fine based on looking at tyFLOW system requirements, but stopped short of telling me definitively, which Is why I created this topic asking the question. It is very reassuring that you said it looks good, but I know so little about hardware that I need to ask once more.  I was thrown off by the fact that there are multiple different versions of the card, which leaves me concerned that you might think I was referring to the normal RTX-3090.  Put simply, I am asking whether the card that corresponds to the model number I provided in bold a few sentences ago is fully compatible with tyFLOW.  Please excuse my overzealous paranoia. I really appreciate your time and am absolutely in awe of this awesome software. Thanks again!

Yes, you should be fine with that brand of 3090. The chipset among all 3090's is the same. The difference between brands of NVidia GPUs is just all the peripheral options...VRAM, power, cooling, etc. But it's not like one will support CUDA and another will not. All 3090s will have the same chip and core chip features.

Thank you. Very much appreciated.  I can now rest easy.
