Speed gaps - dantetron - 05-19-2022

Hey, all!

How do I initiate birth substeps so I don't get the gaps seen below because of high particle speed?

Thanks!!

Which operators are you using to apply force? Some have a ‘simulate substeps’ option you can enable to get rid of the stepping…

SPEED is my first operator and I actually do have 'simulate substeps' checked but I'm still getting gaps.

Thanks!

The Force operator also has that setting…could you check that it’s enabled in there too?

It is indeed enabled.  I've attached the file if anyone wants to see if they're seeing anything or getting the same results. Max 2023.

Thanks!

Thanks for posting the file.

The fix is simple: put the Speed operator after the Position Icon operator.

The explanation for the fix is that the 'simulate substeps' setting of the Speed operator offsets the position of particles at their starting frame to simulate how particles would have traveled on their first frame had they been simulated with many small substeps....but then you undo the effect of 'simulate substeps' by re-moving them with the Position Icon operator after the Speed operator evaluates. By positioning them first with Position Icon and then simulating substeps with the Speed operator after, you don't override the effect.

Put the Speed operator second and then enable/disable the 'simulate substeps' option to see its effect.

Holy crap you're awesome. Thank you.
I'm still poorly practiced when it comes to the order of things in a flow so this will help me be more mindful of it.
