I know you can already shift esc, but you sometimes have to catch it as it moving to the next frame. sometimes it's completely stuck calculating a heavy frame and there's nothing you can do.

Just hold Shift+ESC until it stops, rather than pressing it and depressing it once.
If you have a situation where Shift+ESC isn't working at all, please post the file. Note that it isn't feasible to insert escape conditions in every single function, so sometimes you do have to wait a few seconds for certain computations to finish before Shift+ESC will be detected - especially during 3rd party library executions. If you find a situation where the wait time is unreasonable, you can send me the file and I can take a closer look.
