Spline Path Cache? - mitchfx - 04-28-2019

Would it be possible to add a cache workflow for spline paths that doesn't include the geo?  What I'm looking for is a way to cache out my spline paths, but then still be able to use TySplines that point to those caches to drive them.  There are situations where I'd prefer to not have the spline render geo baked into the tyCache object but instead cache out the spline paths that would be imported via a loader (tyCache or a new type of object).  This way you still have control over the spline geo render settings (interpolation, segments, etc) without have to re-cache every time.  Maybe there's already a way to do this I'm not aware of?

There's not currently a way to do this, unfortunately. It's something I could potentially consider in the future.

Thanks for the reply.  That's good to know so I don't keep digging Smile   In the meantime I can rely on alembic or good old pointcache.

This need keeps coming up for me over and over.  For example, I'm driving the creation of electrical arcs using tySplines, which then get noise modifiers applied to make them look perturbed, and also using another tySpline with no interpolation knots plug a lattice modifier (joints only) as a volume select node to limit the noise to the bridging segments.  Unfortunately the rendering is inconsistent on the farm, so right now my only option is to Alebmic or XMesh these out.  It would be GREAT to be able to cache the tySplines somehow instead, then I could apply all my stack modifications on top.  Make sense?  Thanks!
