Birth Intersections velocity checkbox

I am making some video tuts on the operators and in the birth intersections rollout, I came across an issue.

if velocity is unchecked - the values for divergence etc. should not be active, but if I have a number greater than zero in divergence, and then I un-tick velocity the particles are still affected by divergence.

My thought is this is another checkbox issue and its checkbox value is not being applied.

So I think its a bug

Thanks for pointing this out, Rob. So its...sort of a bug I guess, moreso just something that isn't entirely clear in the UI.

The divergence parameter not only applies to speed, but also the position offset normal. That's why the velocity checkbox only affects the velocity spinner. Because if you increase the divergence spinner it also affects the position offset.

However, that's not clear in the UI so in the next build I will give the position offset its own divergence spinner, so the current divergence spinner will only apply to velocity, and will therefore be greyed out if velocity is not enabled.

Edit: ah wait, I thought you were saying divergence stays active when velocity is unchecked...but you were saying the opposite. Divergence gets greyed out but still has an effect. Yes, that's a bug Smile

Another observation - because of this tutorial video series  I am trying to make

I took a textplus object - wrote TyFlow in it - Animated the text to pass through a box - with my new found knowledge I learned that the particles will be generated on the stationary object - which did happen

TyFlow got written on the box - but only the backside (hence mirrored to read) - not both sides of the box - I then reversed the animation on a 2nd set of objects - ie: text moves from front to back and the particles deposited on both sides of that box ??

I'm having a hard time picturing what you're describing to be honest....do you have a video screencap or something you could share?

Here you go mate

This is a video segment from a short tutorial on the operator and that is when it happened to me.

Rob

EDIT 8/18/22 Deleted Attachment - Tyson Has it and it now works here too

Thanks Rob, could you also attach the file so I can examine it directly? I did some tests here and can't reproduce the problem you're seeing...I can particle generated on both sides.

I didn't save that file - I was just playing at the end of the tutorial, I just took the same steps I created in the file in yesterday and it works as expected, I now can't reproduce the problem either.

I have tried several times trying to do exactly as I did yesterday. Sorry !! - it works every time now (which is a good thing)  - LoL I will have to correct that video Smile

I mean it happened, its in the video - must have been !!??!!

Thanks Mate
