Tycache rendering black after update
#1
Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue in Tyflow where tycache's that I have previously exported are rendering black and not finding the loaded instance materials.

The tycache's were created on a different computer using an older version of Tyflow. Now I'm trying to render the sequences on a different computer with an updated version of tycache. This is what seems be causing the issue as if I export the tycaches in the new version it finds the material but the simulation isn't the same as the previous exported tycaches.

Is there a solution for this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

The tyCache compression scheme was completely changed (I think about 20 builds ago - you can check the version history to find out exactly when)....so that's likely the issue.

You'll either need to re-export with a newer tyFlow build, or put an older build on your new machine for the time being.

Thanks for the fast reply.

The tycache's were creating in version v1.028 and on the machines I'm trying to render are on the build v1.029.
I installed the older version on the new machines but they are still rendering black. I can't re-export with the newer tyFlow build as the export looks drastically different.

Cheers.

Oh, well...the tyCache format was not changed between v1.028 and v1.029, so that won't be the cause then.

Did you transfer the .mat file over with the rest of the tyCache?

And what do you mean by "looks drastically different"?

I copied the whole exported folder of the tycache's including a tyMtl file to the other computer. Is that the .mat file you mean?

I re-exported two of the cache's successfully with the same position as before. The third tycache in the scene doesn't simulate to the same position as before (see screenshot attached). The yellow position is the original simulation and exported tycache, the purple is the re-simulation.

Cheers.

Are all the texmaps saved in the tyCache material file visible to the new computer? They aren't contained within the material file itself...so those maps would need to be available on the new computer, at the identical path location. So either a network share that both machines can see, or copied over with the tyCache and placed in the same folder structure on the new machine.

Thanks for your help, I got it working in the end.
I installed the older version of Tyflow and re-exported the tycaches. Now they are working correctly as before with the materials.
