nth Frame Caching?

Would it be possible/is it already possible to have nth frame cached.  So if you have a 1,000 frame long simulation for instance you have checkpoints every say 20th frame which cuts storage by 95% vs a full cache but lets render nodes just recalculate from a nearby checkpoint?
