Voronoi interior crumbling looking faces

Hi there,
I have seen a few tutorials around about subdividing all the fractured objects and then displacing the internal faces mat ID 2 with a noise material to get the damaged look.

I am 'attempting' a building coming down and doing this kills my machine as there are so many polys being introduced into the fracture with the subdividing that is happening.

Is there an alternate way to do this, something maybe in the latest versions that some of the older tutorials do not cover.
