Change particle color with time

Hi. Can somebody please explain how to change a particle's colour/opacity etc with time. I understand that the Particle Age map does not work with Tyflow. A search on this forum yielded an answer that an 'example scene is included'. But which one?

There is a file in the sample scenes pack in the "Misc" directory called "tyFlow_UVWGradient_001.max" which explains what you're looking for.
