typreview & V-Ray GPU IPR?
#1
max 2018 / V-Ray Next update 3.1 / tyflow 016089

Is it possible to use typreview with the V-Ray GPU IPR?
If I use the standard max preview generator with the GPU IPR turned on and these options:

Per-View presets - 'High Quality'
Preference - 'Default Shading'

I get a viewport preview file rendered with the IPR, but it rips through the frames so quickly that each frame barely has time to run the first pass before moving on, giving a super noisy and low res image.

I'd love to use typreviews Prog. refinement option with it set to a couple of seconds to give time for a decent number of passes per frame, but if I use the same settings as above in the Appearance settings, I get a black frame even though I can see the pass counter running in the bottom left of the viewport.

Am I being dumb and missing something obvious?
Thanks for any help,
Jon

Hi,

I use a script from ScriptSpot called:

PowerPreview: High Quality Nitrous Previews

Just did a test using Max 2020 and VRay 4.30.02 and it works a treat!

Turn ON Vray IPR in the camera viewport you want to use then run the script.

Hope that helps,

Thomas

That (above) was using VRay CPU

If you want to use the GPU - IPR, then I've found that caching out the sim to objects works.

Use the Export Particles opperator - export type Objects

Then VRay GPU as Production or IPR will work.

Set the Mesh opperator to - Triangle Mesh

VRay 5 may allow you not to have to bother with caching out your sim, but for now this works.

Awesome, thank you Thomas, grabbed the PowerPreview script and it does what I need.
