I've been trying to achieve a similar thing specifically for retaining volume and self collisions on a skinned character on bends such as the elbow and knee (instead of using skin wrap or deltamush solutions). Would it be possible do you think with some particle bindings or perhaps find target for the cloth to attempt to get as close to the target skinned mesh as possible but not allow mesh intersections and maintain volume? Similar to the results in this video https://youtu.be/RLEaii2NLNw
