It would be great to have a face/normal 'Smoothing' option on the tySplineMesher, as well as an interpolation of any linear spline points to bezier for smoother looking splines.
The spline interpolation should be done in the base object....all max splines (including tySpline objects) should have an 'interpolation' rollout where you can set those values.
As for smoothing, do you mean an option to smooth the mesh by face angle or whatever?
