Emission over time
#1
I find i always get stuck whenever i try to do anything texture wise over time.

I am simply trying to make some geometry start glowing over time, but not all at the same time, just when they get past to the next event. currently they all start glowing during the first event where the keyframes are.

I have keyframed it glowing over about 20 frames, no matter what i do with custom properties i cannot get it to work. every source i see seems to use the gradient ramp. Is there a way of doing this with an emission keyframe animation?

The easiest way to sync particles/materials is with a gradient ramp, yes. That allows you to convert some particle value, usually clamped from 0-1, to a texmap color value which can be used as a mask.

The problem i am having is that I can get a colour to change over time using a Custom Properties, Mapping operator and a Ramp. But the mapping Operator ruins all the other sub object materials for the shape

There are 8 sub materials and i simply want only one of them to change colour over time. but there seems to be a trade off, either keep the mapping of all objects or make the colour change work, i cannot get them to work together.

Thoughts?

Thanks
