3DS Max crashing when using Rigid Skin mode in tyVAT
#1
I've been having an issue where Max crashes when I change the Vertex Animation Texture mode to 'Rigid Skin RGBA' in the tyVAT modifier. I've attached a video showing what happens, along with the scene and the crash log.

I think it's to do with the VAT data channel being set to 3. I need the second channel for lightmap UVs so channel 3 is preferable for the VAT data.

I was also able to change the data channel back down to 2, then change the mode to Rigid Skin with no crash, change the data channel up to 3, but when I export the VAT texture it crashes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks very much.

Thanks, I can repro the issue and it will be fixed in the next build. As a workaround you can do the following:

On your export object, under the tyVAT modifier, place a UVW map modifier and set it to channel 2. The rest of the settings don't matter - it's just the map channel 2 that needs to be initialized.

Also I noticed that in your rollout UI you have a lot of weird button scaling issues visible - can you confirm a few things please:

1) What's your screen resolution set to?
2) Do you have windows scaling enabled in your system display settings?
3) Is your system language set to a non-English language?

Thanks so much for fixing this and for the workaround, that works perfectly.

As for the UI scaling issues:

1) My screen resolution is 1920x1080 for the monitor I usually use Max on. I also have a 4K monitor, not sure if that would affect things or not.
2) I couldn't find windows scaling, I've attached some screenshots of the settings I have.
3) My system language is set to 'English (United Kingdom)'

I've come across another crash that might be related to this Rigid Skin/data channel 3 stuff.

I used the workaround for the original scene and had no crashes while working in that scene. I've got another scene that's set up to use XREF with the original one. If I change the mode to 'rigid skin' in the original scene and save it, the other scene with the XREF link then crashes. I've attached a video showing it along with the crash files and Max scenes.

Thanks, I can repro the crash here and it shouldn't occur in the next build.
