Actor operator not inheriting material from actor nodes

The latest update has an option in the actor operator  to inherit the material from the actor nodes.

I can't seem to get that to work right no matter what combination of material assignments I try.   My actors only receive a material if I assign one to the tyflow node itself.

I was under the impression that it would inherit the material applied to the actor geo.

Instance material inheritance only works when rendering with VRay instances, and only applies to tyActor particles (it does not carry through on skinned meshes).

Ok I will stick with my previous method of applying materials to skinned meshes if thats the case.
