Spawn by travel bug when using position operators

I'm attempting to create a basic particle trail, but when I use Spawn by Travel Distance, the operator seems to be calculating the particle position from the scene origin rather than its initial position (in this case, using Position Icon).  So I get these weird straight lines of particles from 0,0,0 to their starting point.  After that it works normally.

Edit: Adding just a bit to this, the mode doesn't seem to matter.  I'm getting the error whether it's by travel or per second.  I've attached my scene.
