Hmm, normals should be transferred automatically if they're assigned. If you've found a case where that's not happening, please send me the file.
As for instancing, a condition of instancing is that meshes between instances are identical, so it's not possible to instance the shapes while simultaneously respecting their individual (and presumbly unique) normals. Once two meshes have any topological differences, they cannot be instanced.
