You mean a texmap that drives the thickness value?
I have an internal shell function I use throughout tyFlow that I recently augmented with that ability for the multifracture modifier/operator - certain fracture modes allow you to vary the cutting mesh shell thickness with noise.
However, there's no dedicated modifier for that and it's purely an internal function. Perhaps one day I'll add a tyShell modifier - it's just that Max's shell works pretty well and it would feel somewhat redundant (obviously the thickness-variation option would set it apart, but at the moment it doesn't feel like enough of a feature to justify releasing a competing/redundant modifier...). Seems like it might be more prudent just to ask the Autodesk devs to add that to their built-in mod.
