spline trails sticking to moving object

I have a scene where particles are spawned on an object surface, the object has its position animated. 
I then have a spawn operator creating new particles and then a path follow, the idea being to to create a trail behind the moving object. (imagine streamers attached to a ball, and it gets thrown) 

So I want the trajectory splines to trail behind this object, with their start points 'sticking to the surface. 
This sort of works with spline mesh set to 'siblings' but not with 'trajectory'. The issue is siblings mode only forms a straight line, I want the trails to have turbulence and follow a helix like path trajectory, spinning and whirling around as they trail behind.

If I just use trajectory, the splines start point gets left behind as the object moves so it doesn't achieve what I want

How can I achieve this effect?
