HiRez Cloth workaround

I'm working on tearing apart a hirez mesh 60k+ vertices... this is very costly and slow on simulation.

is there a workflow/workaround for something like this?

i tested with a very lorez mesh, then plugged in the Hirez mesh and got very different results.
