particle bind-maintain alignment

Hi
Im trying to , bind and align some geo to another "flows" particles
  i can bind the geo to the underlying flow, and have them, "follow",  but i want to have the geo keep the  orientaion too 
the "maintain aligment" checkbox is greyed out, how can i keep alignment?
