How to disintegrate/shatter an animated character?
#1
I've been unable to figure this out. Every example I can find is a static asset, and every animated character example is always cloth stuff.
The character has a mix of mesh animation (modifier stack stuff) as well as being a skinned/rigged asset.

I've tried to birth an object referencing tyflow with tyactor/anim, object bind but it can't transfer animation unless I use a cloth bind, but the minute I use cloth bind I'm kinda locked into cloth stuff and can't really seem to break it?

If I can't do a shatter/disintegrate I can settle for a cloth destroy on this thing, but is there a way to degrade/disintegrate the cloth and have it fade out to nothing? It kinda gets shredded and just hangs around and I'm not sure how to deal with it.

Need a bit more context...is this disintegration happening in extreme closeup? Medium-long? In the distance?

There are many different ways to approach something like this, really depends on the requirements of the shot.

It's happening on pretty dense character meshes, not super close up, more mid shot. I figure there's probably something I'm missing but can't seem to work this out. I either get cloth on an animated mesh, or a shatter on a static frame of my mesh

How many particles are you trying to shatter this character into? Tens? Hundreds? Millions?

You can shrink cloth with a Modify Bindings operator...basically reduce the rest length of cloth binds over time.

There is also an official example scene showing how to fracture deforming geometry using the cloth-based approach.
